Plymouth Foodbank Donations

Over the Christmas period, it is sometimes easy to forget about those less fortunate and at this time of year, Plymouth High would usually be welcoming donations from students and their families to the Plymouth Foodbank. This year however, the Head Student Team at PHSG are asking that donations be made differently.

The Plymouth Foodbank is a community based project which aims to help fight poverty and offer help to those in financial crisis within the city. It is part of a larger, nation-wide network of foodbanks called the Trussell Trust. This year, analysis shows that there is a projected 61% increase in the number of food parcels needed across the UK. In 2019, the Plymouth Foodbank gave 8,791 three-day food packages to those in need and they anticipate donating many more.

This is why the Head Student Team is asking students and their families to help out where possible. Donating to a foodbank is a very easy process. When you are at the supermarket, it is very easy to add something into your trolley that is urgently needed by the food bank and put it in the donation box as you leave. Some supermarkets even offer coupons for you to scan to pay for the item without adding it to your basket! Lidl does this and will even match your donation.

The following supermarkets in Plymouth have donation points for Plymouth Foodbank:

  • The Co-op: Wilton Street, Wolseley Road

  • Morrisons: Plymstock, Outland Road

  • Sainsbury’s: Marsh Mills, Armada Way

  • Iceland: Mayflower Street, Marlborough Street

  • Wilko, Armada Centre

Currently, the Plymouth Foodbank urgently needs puddings (rice pudding and custard), crisps, pet food and much more.

You can see their updated list here: www.plymouth.foodbank.org.uk/gove-help/donate-food

They also have made it even easier to donate food and needed items through Amazon - you don’t even need to go to the shops to help! Their wish list can be found here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3M0A5AVLNLMXA?ref_=wl_share

Anything you order goes straight to the foodbank and the list is updated every week.

The Head Student Team would like to thank you in advance for your kindness in supporting an important local cause.
