Year 8 Food & Nutrition Class Sharpen their Skills with Chartwells!

Year 8 students took their Food and Nutrition lessons to the next level today, by building on the basics they learnt in Year 7. This term, they’ve been mastering more challenging recipes that require advanced kitchen skills, particularly when it comes to chopping and food preparation. In a special lesson, we welcomed a representative from Chartwells, our school catering partner, to host a session focused on knife skills and safety.

Students were guided through the proper techniques for chopping, slicing, and dicing—essential skills for creating more complex dishes.

Students were taught the importance of precision and safety, from the correct way to hold a knife to how to safely prepare ingredients for their recipes. The lesson was hands-on and interactive, giving students the chance to practice under professional guidance.

This valuable session not only helped to boost the students’ confidence in the kitchen but also taught them key skills they’ll use throughout their cooking journey.

As they move forward, Year 8 students are set to tackle even more ambitious recipes with their newfound skills!

A big thank you to Chartwells for sharing their expertise and helping our students become even more skilled in the kitchen! 🍳👩‍🍳
