Sophie is awarded the Lord Lieutenant of Devon for 2020 and 2021
This is the highest accolade any cadet can achieve and means they become ambassadors for their unit and service. They have the opportunity to become part of special occasions within the community, which are not available to others.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Sophie V joined 2377 (Plympton) Squadron in 2016 where she quickly established herself as a confident and very able cadet. She has taken advantage of as many opportunities to try new activities as is practically possible, gaining a breadth of experience which has benefited herself and her unit.
Sophie has successfully completed the 35 mile Ten Tors Challenge, acting as both Team Leader and navigate. She also has a passion for charity work, and is involved on a number of activities to raise money for various charities. Outside of cadets Sophie runs her own business, which she used to help raise fund for these charities.
Sophie has taken a full interest in the flying opportunities offered, having completed both powered flying and gliding sorties, and she has applied for a flying scholarship. At the Squadron, Sophie is the senior Cadet and acts as a mentor for the other cadets. During the lockdown she actively encouraged other cadets to take part in online activities and helped to maintain their enthusiasm.
It was a great evening and Sophie should be very proud of what she has achieved and what she has given back to her squadron and linked charities.
