PHSG Swimming Gala 2024

On Wednesday 12th June, students from across the year groups, competed for valuable House Points in the annual Swimming Gala.

Students groups all year came to participate and support the Gala, which is held in the 25m pool at Marjons University. The Houses compete in a series of events which include open butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and free in Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories.

91 participants took part in this years’ swimming gala at Marjon’s and it was another hotly contested house event, with one school record being broken. Some stand out performances included Alice S in year 7 who won the Year 7 Cup; Ava E in Year 8 who won the Intermediate (Year 8&9) Cup; and Gabby D (Year 10) and Kitty H(Year 12) who shared the Senior Cup.

These were awarded to the students who accumulated the most points in the individual races. Ava in Year 8 actually won the Open Butterfly and Individual Medley races, which were open to any age category, and she managed to beat some Year 12 swimmers in the process- a great achievement!

In the relay events, the year 7 Temple teams (Charlotte M, Cerys J, Rose M-S, Nila B and Tegen H) were victorious in both the Freestyle and Medley, contributing to them winning the Junior House Cup. Well done Temple!

Latimer then took a clean sweep of the rest of the relays which contributed to them winning the Intermediate and Senior House Cups. The Year 12 Latimer team (Evie F, Amy W, Mis V and Adele B) set a new school record in the Senior Freestyle Relay; breaking their own record they set two years ago- shaving 4 seconds off their time.  Incredible!

Well done to everyone who competed for their house, and to the house leaders and sports captains for organising the teams.

The final results are as follows:
1st Latimer
2nd Temple
3rd Anthony
4th Kendall

Well Done Latimer!
