A round up of the events that have taken place in the library in the Summer Term 2024

Empathy Day 6 June

Empathy Day is an annual event, inspiring young people to put empathy into action. Books are a great way to help us understand someone else's feelings by stepping into the shoes of the characters we meet.

In June, we shared a small selection of the many books that we have in the library that can encourage empathy. During lunchtime, we invited students to come to the library and decorate an empathy flag.

We gave them a flag and asked them to think of an empathetic resolution that they would like to put into action. We then made the flags into empathy bunting!

Pride month- June

In June we celebrated Pride Month.

This year we looked back to 1988, when the U.K. government passed Section 28 into law. This banned local authorities from delivering content that could be seen as promoting homosexuality.

We shared some ‘recommended reads’ and remembered the defiant librarians who stocked their libraries with banned content.

Refugee Week 17-23 June

A week celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

One of our student librarians Melody, created a display around this theme and chose some of our library books that feature stories of people forced to leave their homes.
