Libaray News

A round up of the events that have taken place in the library in the Autumn term two 2024.

Reading achievements

Since our last library update, four more reading milestones have been achieved. Annelise 7L has achieved her silver reading badge for reading and reviewing 25 library books! Also, Matilda 7K, Erin 7L and Beauty 11K have read and reviewed 10 library books and have been awarded their first house badge. Well done all!

Students from any year group can take part in our Achievement in Reading challenge. All you have to do is write a short review for each book you read on our library management system ‘Accessit’. The librarians are more than happy to show anyone who is interested in taking part. It is a great way to achieve house points and a pin badge whenever you reach a milestone (10, 25 and 50 books)

Elf on the Bookshelf

Our library ELF ON THE BOOKSHELF, Ebenezer came back to visit us this December. The students have had lots of fun trying to decipher the book title from the clues he left behind. This year he has been reading books from some great new collections of books we have – ‘Sprouts’, ‘15 by 15’ and ‘Read around the world’

Our ‘Sprouts’ and ‘Read around the world’ books help ensure our students’ reading is diverse, inclusive and culturally enriching.

Our ’15 by 15’ book list was carefully curated by our English department. They chose this list of fifteen texts that they believe each member of our school community should read by the age of 15.

See below some of the photos we took. Can you guess the books?

Christmas crafts

Throughout the year we save our damaged and old books so that they can be repurposed into beautiful festive decorations. Last week Mrs Heard and Miss Harris held a making session for students to come and take part in. We made some lovely book Christmas trees and hanging angels for them to take home.

Library Advent Challenge

Another activity that students could take part in this December was our Advent Challenge. Each school day in December, students came to the library to see the challenge revealed behind each advent door. Some of these challenges included filling in a Christmas crossword, creating an acrostic poem or to guess which fictional characters wrote the Christmas wishes. We awarded house points for participation.

Non-fiction November – Academic reading lists

For this years Non-Fiction November we created a display to highlight the TOP 5 READS that teachers recommend to their students as a great starting point for extending their subject specific reading. These books are regularly updated by their teachers and are all available to borrow from the library.
