Library News

A round up of the events that have taken place in the library in the Spring Term 2025.

It’s been a busy term in the library, with a variety of fun events!

New beanbags funded by the PTFA

The library has taken delivery of 8 brand new bean bags, thanks to the incredible generosity and support of the PTFA.

The old bean bags have served us well, but after 6 years of heavy day-to-day use, they were rather depleted and in need of replacing.

The library is a popular space with our students, and we’ve seen an increase in the number of students taking advantage of all we have to offer. It’s more than just a place to check out books, and we have worked hard to create a comfortable and stimulating environment for all to enjoy.

We thank the PTFA and those that support it for helping us work towards this goal.

They will be enjoyed for many years to come!

Blind date with a book

February saw the return of our annual event where we invite students not to judge a book by its cover. Students are invited to go on a ‘blind date with a book.’ They then rate their date by completing a book review. From all the reviews we received, we chose one at random. Congratulations to Anw H, 7K who won a prize and house points for Kendall!

World Book Day- a week of activities

Dress up day. Our school was transformed into a literary wonderland as students of all ages dressed up as their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day! From classic heroes to unexpected surprises, the corridors were filled with wizards, villains, and even a giant walking revision guide!

Visit from a local author. Year 7 had the privilege of welcoming local author Sara Lamerton to our school. She came to talk about her brand-new book, The Curse of Drake’s Island, a thrilling adventure that had us all on the edge of our seats.

Pet Pics. Students tried to guess which of the staff’s pets were ‘reading,’ There were lots of entries, but only 1 group of students managed to match all the pets with their owners correctly- well done to Issey S, Ruby L and Kenzie F from 8K.

Title Twisters. We took some well-known books and twisted the title - they were cryptic! Georgia R and Annabelle S 11A took the ‘title’ in this competition.

‘Shread and Seek’. Involved deciphering the book from its shredded pages (no books were harmed!). Well done to randomly selected winners Eva T 7L and Annelise D 7L.

Literary Pairs. Various staff members wore book character badges, but they were one half of a pair. Molly G 7A managed to correctly find all the staff and match them with their partner.

The final tally of house points was as follows:
Kendall 104
Latimer 100
Temple 64
Anthony 36

Neurodiversity celebration week.

Stories written by neurodiverse authors and stories that include neurodiverse main characters allow children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological differences to see themselves reflected and represented. We also believe that these books deepen children's understanding of their neurodiverse peers, creating a more inclusive environment for all. Another reason why books are awesome!

One of our amazing student librarians Charlotte C, created a display featuring books with neurodiverse characters.

Children’s Mental Health Week

In addition to our fantastic selection of fiction books, we have a great collection on the subject of self-care.

Children’s Mental Health week is an opportunity to help equip young people with the tools to deal with life’s ups and downs.

International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

Each year, we celebrate Women's History Month to honour the achievements, contributions, and impact that women have made throughout history, often in the face of societal challenges and discrimination.

There were also some great articles in March’s additions of The Day

Women's Rights

Help us fight misogyny teachers beg
