In support of Shekinah Mission 27th Plymouth Scouts have done a sponsored sleep-out on Friday 18th June. Shekinah Mission are a charity that “provide opportunities for people who are experiencing all forms of homelessness and other challenges they may be currently facing."

PHSG students in the Explorer unit at 27th Plymouth Scouts got together with Explorers going to DHSB and Eggbuckland to sleep out and reflect upon the issues homeless people face. We recognise that we are in a position of privilege to have been able to experience this as a one-off activity for a night with friends. The reality is that many homeless people don’t have company or a safe environment where they can stay and rest. There are approximately 280,000 homeless people in the UK meaning 1 in 200 people have no permanent place of residency.

When raising awareness for homelessness it is important to acknowledge that homelessness can come in many forms and that there isn’t one set route to becoming homeless.
